1. What information do we collect, and how do we collect it?
(a) Information you provide to us.
We and our third-party service providers ("Contractors") may collect information from visitors or customers in connection with use of, or any submissions provided directly to us or via, the Site (together, "Collected Information"), including, but not limited to, name, title, street address, and email address. There are several instances in which site visits may NOT result in any gathering of personal information. In addition, we and our Contractors may retain the content of, and metadata regarding, any correspondence you may have with Alton Media, LLC employees, our contractors or our representatives, regardless of the mode of communication by which such correspondence was made.
(b) Information collected via technology.
In addition, the Collected Information may reveal such things as the Internet Protocol ("IP") address assigned to your computer, any specific pages accessed on the Site or prior to or after visiting the Site, and the length of time you spend at the Site. We and our contractors may use this information to help monitor and improve the Site's performance. This may include servers that host the Site, generate statistical information, monitor and analyze Site traffic and usage patterns, and improve the Site's content and content delivery, including any online content, materials, and services that we describe or make available on the Site. Visitors, by nature of their interaction with the website and the collection of anonymized data, play an important role in improving the Site's design, enhancements and product selection.
The technologies we use for automatic data collection may include:
Cookies (aka browser cookies). Our Site may send one or more "cookies" to your computer to improve the utility of the Site by storing user preferences and tracking user trends. These cookies are automatically placed on a computer/online persona when a web browser accesses the Site. These placed cookies provide information that helps us understand how visitors and customers navigate to and around the Site, browse the site and access content. All visitor sessions are unique with a different pattern of behavior. Most browsers default to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to provide an alert when a cookie is being sent. Please note that you may not be able to access the full functionality of our Site if cookies are disabled on your browser. Cookie are an industry-standard, commonly used practice. A cookie from StarWag.com will last for 30-days unless a visitor or customer manually removes it sooner.
Flash Cookies. Certain features of our Site may use local stored objects (or Flash cookies) to collect and store information about your preferences and navigation to, from and on our Site. Flash cookies are not managed by the same browser settings as are used for standard browser cookies. The Flash technology itself is owned by Adobe Systems Incorporated. For information about managing privacy and security settings for Flash cookies, click here.
Web Beacons. Pages of StarWag.com and e-mails from our future email program may contain small electronic files known as web beacons. These are also commonly referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags and single-pixel gifs. Web beacons permit the Site, for example, to count users who have visited pages or opened an e-mail and for other related Site collected data (for example, recording the popularity of certain Site content and verifying system and server integrity).
2. Interest-based advertising.
Advertising agencies, advertising networks, and other companies may place advertisements on the Site, and on the Internet altogether, and may use their own cookies, web beacons, and other technology to collect information about visitors and customers when they interact with our Site. The information they collect may be associated with your personal information or they may collect information, including personal information, about your online activities over time and across different websites and other online services. They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioral) advertising or other targeted content. Remarketing (aka retargeting) is a mechanism by which advertiser may serve advertisements based on anonymized past visitor behavior or product views. This is a standard industry practice.
We do not control the use of such technology and have no responsibility for the use of such technology to gather information about you. If you have any questions about an advertisement or other targeted content, you should contact the responsible provider directly. To opt-out of interest-based advertising from third-party companies you may visit http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices.
